MY INSTRUMENTS
Djembe
The djembe is a West African hand drum with a hardwood body and a goatskin head. Originally from Mali and Guinea, it's now one of the best-known percussion instruments worldwide.
Conga
The conga is a Cuban hand drum with a rawhide or synthetic head, made of wood or fiberglass. Originally from Cuba, it traces back to African roots and descends from the West African bougarabou.
Bongo
Bongos are a pair of connected drums of different sizes, called macho and hembra. Originally from Cuba, they're a staple of traditional son and salsa ensembles.
Cajon
The cajón is a Peruvian wooden box drum played while seated, striking the front panel with hands or fingers. Originally from Peru, it has African roots and is now used across many musical styles.
Drums
Everyone knows it. The drum kit is a modern setup made up of bass drum, snare, toms, and cymbals, usually played with sticks and pedals. It's the backbone of rock, jazz, and countless other genres.
Bodypercussion
Body percussion uses the body itself as an instrument — through clapping, stomping, and snapping. It creates rhythm with no equipment at all, just hands, feet, and voice: an ancient, always-available way of making music. Kofi Rocco's versatile percussion repertoire also includes udu (vessel drum), talking drum, caxixi shaker, cowbell, agogo bell, and didgeridoo — from small percussion to a full drum kit.

MY MUSICAL JOURNEY
BIOGRAPHY
For as long as I’ve lived and loved, music has shaped my life. In the early 1980s I met African musicians and was instantly fascinated by their music.
The earthy power and magic of their drum sounds moved me deeply. I traveled to Africa, came to love the music, culture, and hospitality, and became part of a large African family. I teach fully in German and English, and on request, also a bit in French and Spanish.
